WHAT IS A POSTPARTUM NOURISHMENT PLAN?

It is a thought through framework, a roadmap, ideally written down and shared/ considered/ discussed with your partner and close support circle. It may consider the following…

  • What ingredients, meals and snacks do I love, have I always loved and bring me back to comforting centre?

  • Planned date for doing a freezer & store cupboard inventory (looking at what you have, how much space and working out how much batch cooking you can fit in the freezer and what you can stock up on to take the pressure of onve baby arrives.

  • What foods do I need more of during postpartum? I call these ‘focus foods’ in the workshops am launching to help you batch before you hatch and prepare to be nourished in postpartum.

  • Gathering batch cooking menu ideas, ideally food that can be eaten with a spoon, or one hand and woth ingredients abundant in what your body needs to heal.

  • Who will batch cook? How much can we do and who can we ask to contribute to the freezer stash?

  • Can we set up a meal train? (This requires asking for what we need, asking for help, unapologetically, a trait paramount to parenthood, hell, life!) which is a whole other conversation I shall ramble about another day).

  • Will we use a meal delivery service alongside our own cooking? Which one? What is our budget for that?

  • Who can we ask for vouchers for meal delivery services?

  • What snacks do I like that aren’t going to send me on a blood sugar roller coaster but will HIT THE SWEET SPOT?

These are just a few things to consider when thinking about edible support for postpartum. Nourishment is the one thing we can control in postpartum (in my opinion) an it can have a long lasting postive supportive effect on our body if done with planning and care.
